Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8 Days Titanio

If you think you’ve seen this watch before, you are right.  Well, 99% right.  Just over two months ago, Panerai released the  Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8 Days (PAM 427) Special Edition in concert with its sponsorship of the Transat Classique Regatta.  The watch you see here, reference PAM 530, is the same watch except it is not a special edition and does not have a specially engraved caseback.   Not that I am complaining — this is a great looking Panerai.  More look, specs and pricing below.

47mm brushed itanium case, polished titanium bezel, “sandwich dial” with linear “8-day” power reserve indicator, hours/mins/small/secs and chronograph, Panerai caliber p.2006 (manual wind, 3 barrels, double column wheel)

This watch is a rattrapante, also known as a “split-seconds chronograph” featuring a vertical clutch and twin column wheels; the movement is actually manual-wind a manufacture Panerai caliber P.2006.  The first split-seconds timing hand is controlled by the button at 8 o’clock (embossed “C” for ‘chronograph’); the second is controlled by the button at 10 o’clock (embossed “R” for ‘rattrapante’).

Available from April 2013, the Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8-Days Titanio will sell for somewhere in the $25000.
