The oldest and most prestigious award for product design goes to a modern Glashütte classic
Glashütte, January 9, 2013. NOMOS Glashütte is overjoyed to receive the renowned GOOD DESIGN Award from the Chicago Athenaeum once again in 2012: the Tangente Datum won this prize at the end of last year as the jury announced after the Christmas break. Just twelve months earlier, the jury had raised NOMOS' Zürich model to the ranks of the best design achievements worldwide.
For NOMOS Glashütte, this award brings a very special year to an end—a year which saw the “Goldene Unruh” (Golden Balance Wheel) prize and the title “Wristwatch of the Year” for the models Zürich Weltzeit and Tangomat GMT, a year in which the public voted NOMOS Glashütte first place four times at the watch fairs Munichtime and Viennatime. NOMOS watches stand for fine Glashütte watchmaking art, good design, and exceptional value for money; they have grown to attract increasing international attention, as the renowned prizes bear witness.
The history of the GOOD DESIGN Award dates back to the year 1950, when Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. first awarded the prize in Chicago. Today the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design cooperates with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies in Dublin in bestowing this major recognition of product design.
