Quick follow up to a story from last week and a chance to again mock
white watches. WatchZone readers know that I am definitely a fan of
Hublot and I give the brand more than its fair share of coverage here on
the blog. But one thing I am not particularly a fan of is a white
watch — for a man, that is. Hence my post last week mocking the Hublot white Oceanographic 4000 and the Breitling WhiteWater.
By the way, for those of you who missed the joke — the photo of the
dopey Jersey Shore guy wearing a white watch was your clue.
Anyway, when I saw that Hublot had gifted each player of the 2012 NBA
Champion Miami Heat a Big Bang “White Hot” — I knew a gentlemanly line
had been crossed. Although it is certainly a nice gesture from the
hottest brand around, I must ask – would Hublot Chairman Jean-Claude
Biver wear a watch like this? I highly doubt it. I guess that the only
fortunate one was the NBA MVP Lebron James — an Ambassador for Audemars
Piguet — he was noticeably absent from the Hublot White Hot handout.
When it comes to white watches, please, ladies only.
