When I showed you the new Harry Winston Ocean Triple Retrograde
chronographs a couple days ago, I neglected to mention that there was
more to come! So here we go again, this time a look at the new Harry
Winston Ocean Dual Time Black Edition. This watch was first shown at
Baselworld 2012 earlier this year and is now avaliable (price around
$30k). The Harry Winston Ocean Dual Time was originally developed off
of Harry Winston’s fourth Project Zalium (‘Project Z”) collection
(pictured below) which launched as a 100 piece limited edition in 2004,
and it was awarded Best Men’s Timepiece of the Year at the 2008 Grand
Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Asia. With that proud lineage in mind,
I’ll take you through the new Harry Winston Ocean Dual Time “Black
Edition”, on the jump>>>

The Ocean Dual Time Black Edition is built around a 44-mm diameter
case made of Zalium™. Zalium is an aluminum-zirconium alloy unique to
Harry Winston; it is light, harder than titanium and hypoallergenic, as
well as highly resistant to almost all forms of corrosion. Furthermore,
I find that it has a beautiful sheen to it . The Zalium case is given
the ole’ DLC-treatment, i.e. a coating of amorphous carbon crystal (Diamond Like Carbon)
with nearly the hardness of diamond itself. In other words, the case
is extremely impervious to scratches. Not to be confused with “PVD”
which is a similar, but less robust treatment often given to watch
cases.
The watch has dual time zone displays positioned at 2 ‘o clock and 9
‘o clock, both with day and night indicators (both with Super
Luminova). The large vertical date display located at 6 ‘o clock is
given a special deep blue Super Luminova. Note also the smal shuriken
in the middle of the dial — a Harry Winston signature which not only
adds an element of dynamic animation to the dial, but also serves to let
the user known with a glance that the watch is running.
Inside the Harry Winston Ocean Dual Time Black Edition is an
automatic mechanical movement (28,800 vph, power-reserve of 45 hours)
visible through a sapphire crystal case-back, courtesy luxury bazaar:
