You are looking at the new Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk. This is an
entirely new range for the manufacture (“Hawk”); it accompanies the newly redesigned Sea Hawk
which I shared a sneak preview of last week. The Chrono Hawk is
presented in a new and very angular, very masculine 44mm case (also used
for the new Sea Hawk), in your choice of light (Ref. 49970-11-131-HDBA)
or dark (Ref. 49970-11-231-HD6A) dial color. The watch features a well
balanced, highly legible dial with great color and texture — and a
bi-compax chronograph layout. The overall effect is one mean looking
watch — and that’s a compliment of the highest order. WatchZone
couldn’t be more excited about this watch. Closer look and more
details, below.

What a beauty!!!

Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk – Silver Dial

On the dial of the Chrono Hawk we see a subtle honeycomb pattern
inside of a slightly slanted chapter ring (in isolation the shape on the
dial is that of the famous GP bridge) . The thick, sword-style hour
and minute hands go well with the overall look, and the central second
hand with orange tip and the orange chrono seconds add a nice dash of
color to the mix. The dial is well proportioned, well balanced, easy
to read — lots to like and nothing not to.
The watch is powered by GP’s widely used automatic mechanical GP3300 movement, visible through the sapphire display back:

A closer look at the dial:

It must be said that Girard-Perregaux has done a masterful job with
this new case design. The integration with the strap — beautiful and
seamless. The chrono pushers and crown — well shaped, well sized and
also seamlessly integrated. Interesting to me is the octagonal-shaped
rubber ring which appears to sit on the top of the case, but below the
bezel. It adds a measure of sportiness to the watch and simultaneously
ties together the angular case and round bezel and provides an
important visual break between the two and their identical satin-finish.

This new case style really makes this watch such a winner, and more
importantly it gives Girard-Perregaux a solid foundation for building on
in future years. GP really did a wonderful job with these new
watches, I couldn’t be more excited to see them in person. Price on the
Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk is $14,800.
